Current Draw:
Today's B&M siren motors are the result of continuous development and research going back to the 1920's. They operate at optimal efficiency and performance. Our eight inch diameter sirens draw about 60 amps at full speed, vs. a claimed 100 amps (really more like 120) for our nearest competitor.
Concerns over current draw and its effect on other equipment such as radios are common. There have been instances where operating a siren would cause vehicle radios to shut off or go into 'self-check' due to low voltage. In every known case, this was due to improper installation or unrelated electrical system deficiency. Properly installed according to our wiring instructions, B&M sirens should not cause your apparatus any hardship.
Note the term 'properly installed'. Careful consideration should be given to installing any moderate-to-large electrical equipment in a very light-duty vehicle, which may need upgrades to achieve the desired results.
